Cuddles4Biggles Prompting Fest

Welcome to our second prompting fest: Cuddles4Biggles or the Biggles Cuddlefest! This is based on Smut4Biggles and uses basically the same rules.

Rules:

* You may request any combination of characters, pairings, or gen. "Any" or "original" are perfectly fine too (e.g. "Erich von Stalhein & Any Biggles Team Member"). The only requirement is that cuddling, hugging, petting, or other physical contact must be suggested by the prompt or fill.

Erich’s bedroom window faced east. The lace curtains which had come with the flat failed to block much light, casting long filigreed shadows across the carpet. It didn’t matter much to Erich when he first arrived; he always woke before dawn.

This had become less true as time passed. In the months following his defection, he had found that his routines shifted. There was no longer any need to wake quite so early in the morning, and the sun’s rays became more bothersome as spring approached. Other elements contributed to this irritation, but none quite so much as the one currently occupying the other half of his narrow bed.

Erich stretched languidly and lay back against his pillow. He had forgotten how much warmer it was, sharing a bed.

“Curtains,” muttered Bigglesworth, one arm cast across his eyes. “Must get you proper blackout curtains.”

Erich smiled. “The world is waking up,” he said. He had no intention of moving, of course. It was simply pleasant to argue over trifles. “Perhaps we should too.”

Bigglesworth groaned in protest. His other arm, already curled lightly around Erich’s waist, tightened dramatically, pulling him closer. It was odd seeing this side of the other man, usually almost comically buttoned-up.

“Can I persuade you otherwise?” He asked. His lips, ever a source of interest, tipped up just a touch at the corners. “It’s Sunday, after all. Never much to do on a Sunday.”

“Perhaps I’ve developed religion,” replied Erich. He inched closer, settling into the warmth of Bigglesworth’s embrace. It meant he felt the laugh he provoked in his own chest, vibrating.

Erich gradually learning to appreciate lie-ins! This is soft and lovely and perfect for them both. And I see going curtain shopping with Biggles is in his future now (paisley curtains? the mind boggles)

Oh, this is so warm and lovely! <3333 I love the gradual phasing out of the early morning wakeups (or just lack of caring about his environment at all) as a sign of Erich settling into his new life and learning to relax and be happy here, and the morning snuggling is so darling, including Biggles's annoyance with the early morning sun. He absolutely WILL buy him blackout curtains and probably 20 other small nice things for the flat if Erich gives him half a chance, I suspect! And Erich finding a relaxed, complaining Biggles adorable is definitely a mood.

Biggles strode into the Air Police operational office with his mouth open to speak, started to say Algy's name, and then stopped, mouth still half open.

"Do not," Algy said between his teeth, "say a word."

He was sitting on the ragged sofa in one corner of the office. The old sofa was a fixture of the office, drawn out of the way of the desks, where it had provided a soft, if badly sprung, place to nap for more than one tired member of the SAP over the years.

At the moment, it was giving Algy a place to sit, and von Stalhein a place to sleep — slumped on Algy's shoulder.

They'd all had a very long day, in pouring rain, and all of them had been drooping and stumbling with exhaustion when they returned to the SAP office at the aerodrome late that evening. Biggles had seen Ginger and Bertie off first, both of them limping from minor injuries. Algy, for his part, was unhurt, just wet and muddy.

Von Stalhein had said he was completely fine, repeated it several times, in fact, even though Biggles had seen him knocked about and nearly run over by the smugglers they were apprehending. Having him out in the field with the team, in this case to provide translation services, was still a minor miracle that Biggles had not quite adjusted to yet.

Now he gazed at the image in front of him. Algy had one of the scratchy old wool blankets that they kept in the office (for just such occasions as this) wrapped around his shoulders, his hands clutching a heavy old pottery mug of coffee. Von Stalhein had another, similar gray blanket draped over his lap. There was an untouched cup on the spare desk at his end of the couch — well, what had been his end, until he had fallen asleep tilting onto Algy.

"If you might consider providing some assistance," Algy said, low. Still, Biggles couldn't help noticing that he wasn't moving at all, even though his position looked uncomfortable, one elbow on the arm of the sofa and the other resting on his knees.

"Of course," Biggles said quietly. He slipped into the room, straight to Ginger's desk, where Ginger's old box camera sat among a clutter of paperwork, magazines, and stained mugs.

"Do not," Algy said grimly. "Don't—Bigglesworth—don't you dare—I know where you sleep—!"

But he kept his voice low, even as Biggles took his hand off the camera, smiling.

"Would you care for a relief shift, Flying-Officer Lacey?"

"Oh God yes, you have no idea how happy that would make me."

"Of course, if you'd rather have some quiet time to—"

"Biggles," Algy said, teeth almost audibly grinding.

Biggles decided it was a bad idea to wind him up any more, he'd already been a good sport about the entire thing, and slid onto the creaky springs of the sofa in the space between the armrest and von Stalhein's narrow hips. "Erich," he murmured, and putting a light hand on von Stalhein's shoulder, gently moved him a little.

Von Stalhein came awake with a jolt, and Algy, with a swift motion that put Biggles in mind of their long-ago boyish days, ducked out from under the burden and stood up. Von Stalhein blinked, squinting as if the lights in the room were too bright. He raised a hand to his forehead. "I—apologize, I—where am I? Ah," he added, with dazed comprehension, as Biggles steered him carefully to a more or less upright position.

"I think it's time to go home and sleep, for all of us," Biggles said. He kept a hand on von Stalhein's shoulder, steadying him as he swayed in the grip of nearly intractable exhaustion.

"Tell me about it," Algy said loudly, and took his mug off to the kitchenette.

Algy is, as ever, the real star of the show! Like Biggles, I was transfixed by the image of Algy sitting down for a break on the sofa and Erich ending up sound asleep on his shoulder, yes, of course they would wind up like that, and Algy would cope even with gritted teeth. Biggles teasing him with the camera but then offering to relieve him is utterly delightful. And I'm sure Biggles will fuss over Erich a bit before they all crash in bed <333

AMAZING. I can even believe it would happen to them, because Algy is such a softie that he wouldn't actually move despite really really wishing he could.

Biggles definitely should have taken that picture. Algy would have taken that picture in his place, but Biggles is just happy to see them XD

And then Biggles, craving to be a little slept-on, offers himself as a willing sacrifice :D

"Get away from you so easily?" Biggles offered whimsically. "The odds are against you, you know."

"I only need to succeed once," von Stalhein retorted. "But since you make a point of it... one more step forwards, please. Now your hands, if you don't mind, Bigglesworth."

Biggles stepped forwards, facing the wall, and von Stalhein seized his wrists. He must have put the gun away to do it, but he had an iron grip on both wrists and Biggles doubted he would win in any contest of physical strength; he could hear von Stalhein's tense breathing in his ear and knew the man was braced for any kind of action. A smooth cord was wrapped around one wrist, then the other, looping around them both and effectively restraining him. Once his hands were securely fastened he felt von Stalhein's tension ease.

"You think this will tilt the odds in your favor?" Biggles asked. "Well, perhaps. In general I would be the last person to advise against riding your luck."

Von Stalhein was checking his knots, his fingers brushing against Biggles's wrists; then he took Biggles's forefinger in a light grip, pressing briefly on one fingernail. "It is not my intention to harm you. Is there any pain?"

Biggles did not think it would help his situation to lie. "It's not exactly comfortable, but I don't think it's dangerously tight." He rolled his shoulders a little, trying to get his sleeves to lie smoothly. To his surprise, von Stalhein pulled them straight, his hand brushing the fabric almost fussily. Biggles looked back over his shoulder in surprise.

"Thank you," he said. "If you don't mind, there's some hair in my eye." He'd been in the field for a long time on this mission and his hair had grown in an irritating way, he had intended to ask Algy to snip off the worst of it this morning, but events had intervened.

Von Stalhein's hand was still resting on his arm; he used it to turn Biggles to face him. "Oh yes, I see," he said in a low voice, and with one finger and a very delicate touch, he swept the offending lock away, then smoothed all Biggles's hair down and to the side. Biggles gave a wry smile.

"This would almost be friendly if I wasn't tied up," he commented.

"If you weren't tied up, it couldn't be friendly," von Stalhein said instantly. "I shall have to leave you now, I have much work to do elsewhere now." He did not leave immediately, but surveyed Biggles with a bright-eyed gaze. "Is there anything else you require before I go--a drink, perhaps?"

There was a jug of water and an earthenware mug on the table, both useless to Biggles with his hands tied. "Thank you, yes," Biggles said. His ear had picked up the faintest of sounds, the note of a distant engine. Von Stalhein would hear it soon too. But for now, von Stalhein was pouring water into the mug. He held it to Biggles's lips, resting his free hand on Biggles's shoulder. Biggles realised he was leaning a little into that touch, as if von Stalhein was a friend comforting him in this cell instead of his captor. He straightened up hastily, and a little water splashed on his face.

"Excuse me," von Stalhein said, chasing away the droplets with his finger. "Enough?"

"Thank you," Biggles said again, a little tenser himself now. The sound of the engine was growing louder, and von Stalhein glanced involuntarily towards the barred window.

"It's a long way down for a man with tied hands," he remarked lightly. "I suggest you remain here."

"I'll bear your preferences in mind," Biggles answered.

Von Stalhein's hand was still on his shoulder, a warm, almost possessive grasp. Biggles did not pull away. "Alternatively," he said, "I've told you before the air is sweeter on my side of things. We might have room for a passenger."

At that, von Stalhein released him, very abruptly. Biggles stepped back. Von Stalhein was shaking his hand out, as if the touch had scorched his skin. "I have work elsewhere," he said again, and this time he made for the door without looking back. The lock snicked behind him. Biggles stood facing the door a moment longer, then shook himself as well, and crossed to the window to look for signs of the approaching rescue.

This is absolutely delightful, so flirty and sensual with an undercurrent of melancholy, perfect for them at this stage in their relationship! The little touches, Erich's softening attitude, both of them clearly leaning into the opportunity for a little gratuitous physical contact with a plausibly deniable excuse - my heart. <3

ERICH. And Biggles being aware of the plane before EvS is, which is so him. And also:

Biggles realised he was leaning a little into that touch, as if von Stalhein was a friend comforting him in this cell instead of his captor.

And I just ... cannot even with the veiled warmth and care of that final exchange, but then Erich can't handle Biggles once again inviting him over and abruptly withdrawing - the sudden emotional whiplash is excellent, for both of them (Biggles's little frozen moment, until he manages to snap out of it) and also, Erich leaving the room knowing full well that he's probably going to escape. This is just so them and so perfect for the prompt, thank you for writing it! <3

"Get your cold feet off my legs," Algy murmured sleepily as Biggles climbed under the duvet with him.

"The heat's out. Bloody new gas hearth, this was never a problem with the old coal one ..."

"Still not my problem," Algy muttered into his pillow, but Biggles was already snuggled up against his back, and seemed to be falling asleep. Algy sighed, punched his pillow, and leaned back against his cousin. Biggles gave a little sigh and relaxed totally in the way that he did when he was completely asleep.

Which Algy knew all too well, because he had fallen asleep more than once with Biggles curled against him like this under scratchy blankets during the war. And he knew that it was more than the cold that drove Biggles out of his bed to seek comfort in Algy's. So he closed his eyes and let himself drift towards sleep as well, with Biggles a warm bulwark at his back, keeping the chill of the night away.
